Description
Referred to and quoted by Marcus Aurelius, the Discourses of Epictetus are a collection of informal lectures given by the Stoic philosopher Epictetus and recorded by his disciple Arrian around the year 108 AD influential since they were written. Epictetus’ philosophy is quite practical. He encourages his students to concentrate on their feelings, fears, emotions, and wants so that “”they may never fail to get what they desire, nor fall into what they avoid.”” True education consists of learning to discern what belongs to us from what does not, as well as accurately assenting or dissenting to external perceptions. His teachings were intended to make people free and happy. This edition brings the 1877 translation of the classical scholar George Long (1800 – 1879). —- ISBN: 9798461025779
